15 Heart Openers For February

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, hearts are floating everywhere and now is the perfect time to start working on your heart chakra. When our heart chakra is blocked we lose track of where we are suppose to be and start thinking with our heads instead of our hearts. These 15 heart openers for February are a great way to get your heart chakra on track for 2016.

Wild Thing Pose

We live in a society of instant gratification and I think many of us tend to expect that one day self-confidence will appear out of thin air. However, obstacles are how we grow stronger. Verbal + emotional bullet wounds make us better. Usually, people who've never been bullied evolve into hypersensitive adults who buckle under the slightest bit of emotional pressure. I am forever grateful for the people who showed me no mercy as a child, who made it their mission to let me know just how "fat", "ashy",and "ugly" I was in their estimation. Because of those "insults", I was forced to get to know myself inside and outside those descriptions. I didn't know it at the time, but those shitty experiences were tests of character & strength. And strength means nothing if it's not tested. Often, the test is waking up and going to school or work in active defiance of our oppressors. I guess what I'm saying is that it gets better. Really. If you're afraid to go to school tomorrow because your classmates make fun of you, or if you eat lunch in your car while at work because you can't stand the smirks and stares in the break room, believe me- it gets better. Building an internal fortress against those who mean you ill will is hard as fuck, but the payoff beats being a victim. So happy to be home tomorrow at noon, @durhamyoga! FYI, after 1/19, I'll be on the west coast w/ @nolatrees until late February for #mynameisnola West Coast Edition. I know, it's sad but look on the bright side- we'll see each other tomorrow and next week! The Puppy Pose may be the only one I could achieve–and I’m not even sure about that! My Mom at 93 is still doing some Yoga-but even she realized it just wasn’t for me even when I was young (yeah she tried to get me into it with her). It amazes me the positions you can get your body into–I am sitting here shaking my head in wonder.

I need to get back to doing yoga, so jealous of all these poses, I think I can only manage downward dog in my current state. Great post.

I haven’t done yoga in ages and all these poses inspire me want to take it up again. Granted, it would take me a while to be able to do some of these poses.

Such a great post! My back hurts just looking at most of this and yet, I couldn’t help but smile the whole time I was looking through and reading about the pictures. I admit that I am wondering if I could ever get my body to move like these women. Hmmm

I love Yoga but I really need to commit myself to a regular practice. Your post is inspiring as there was a time when I would look up different poses and challenge myself to do them.
