3 Easy Ways to Strengthen Your Balance

I’ve always had decent balance as a child from all of the “girly” sports and activities I participated in but when I started to dance, it grew immensely. Even through college I spun in independent winterguards and senior level drum corps and never thought twice about it. I could move gracefully with balance for 10+ minute shows and without a hitch.

Now let’s fast forward 8 years. I stopped spinning and dancing and have been through 2 c-sections. Needless, to say, my balance is gone. Holding a tree pose was even a struggle which for me, was a shock. Since then, I’ve worked hard on strengthening my balance and I’m slowly getting back to where I use to be. Here are 5 ways to strengthen your balance if life has happened to you.

Core Exercises

If you don’t know already, your core is the center of your balance. If you don’t build and strengthen it, your balance will never achieve the level you want. There are tons and tons of exercises out there to build your core but here is a quick and easy one. Grab a fitness ball, lay on your back, and place it between your feet. From there raise your legs all the up and back down again. Your abs will be burning in no time!

Yoga

I bet you didn’t see that coming! But seriously, yoga has strengthen my balance quicker than any other activity I have ever partaken in. Yoga can help lengthen your muscles while building balance with various poses than can be obtained various ways.

A Balance Pad

I honestly had never heard of a balance pad until I stumbled upon Clever Yoga’s balance pad. When I pulled it out of the box it was nice and dense but I wasn’t sure how much it could do for me. Well, that all changed as soon as I stepped on it! I immediately had to work on keeping my balance. Just closing my eyes and trying to stand still on it was a challenge. This particular pad is super durable, great quality, and comes in several colors. I highly recommend it so feel free to check it out here or watch my video below.
