The Color Me Rad run was the first run I ever did. I thought it was the coolest thing to get covered in powder paint. I picked up my sweet t-shirt, rad sunglasses, sticker, tattoo, and bib then anxiously awaited the run that weekend.
Once the time came, I arrived early because well, I had no idea what to expect. The place was already packed when I arrived so I follow the crowd to the starting line. It was quite cold out so I kept myself huddled in the crowd to stay warm. After the second wave I finally made it up to the front of the line and excitedly waited for the go ahead.
We were off and stayed together for about 1/8th a mile before we all started to spread out finally. The terrain was pavement and gravel back and forth which I wasn’t prepared for. I also thought it was a great idea to wear a brand new pair of shoes for the run…rookie mistake. A third of the way through my feet were killing me but I kept trucking because I was determined. I wasn’t quite sure how much of the “paint” was going to get on me so once we finally hit the first color station and I was covered I was pretty appeased.
The run continued on with about 4-5 more color stations before reaching the end. As soon as I crossed the finish line I was handed a bottle of water, a nature valley bar, and a bag of paint. I choked down my bar and water then headed to the huge rainbow party. I have to admit, the color explosion at the end was my favorite part. They had music blasting and an MC up on in the sky throwing out tons of free gear and TONS of color everywhere.
All in all, I’m really glad I picked Color Me Rad as my first run. It was a great way to break the running ice and help me learn the very beginnings of what not to do for a run. My white shirt and white shoes were covered in “paint” with nice a colored smiled to match. This year I have already registered to tackle the run again and hopefully just as rad of a time.
