Why You Need Carbs in Your Diet

PIN IT!I don’t know how many times I’ve read or seen people talking about cutting carbs or going on an extremely low carb diet. Well, I’m here to inform you all, carbs are NOT bad for you. *GASP* That’s right, carbs are your friends. But how is that possible?

Good Carbs & Bad Carbs

Turns out that the carbs you should cut out of your diet are the bad carbs. What are bad carbs? All the junk food pretty much. Fries, chips, cake, doughnuts, white breads, etc. These are the carbs you need to leave at the store. Now when it comes to good carbs like sweet potatoes, fruit, veggies, beans(garbanzo, kidney, black), whole wheat pasta, these are the carbs you want to consume and have as part of your daily diet.

why you need carbsWhy You Need Carbs

Carbs are your body’s main energy source. When you follow a low carb diet or don’t eat for a while, your body’s glucose(blood sugar) levels drop which will cause your body to make carbs from your fat or protein. This process is ketosis and though there is slowly growing popularity of the ketosis diet, it can cause headaches, fatigue, weakness, as well as many other symptoms.

Moral of the Story

Yes, you can cut or limit your bad carbs and lose weight but this is only temporary weight loss. If you want to live a healthy life then cut those tempting bad carbs and start consuming those healthy carbs.

Remember carbs=energy=movement.

On another note, I came across this about a month ago and thought it would be perfect to share with this post. Please be warned, it is full of “foul” language but hilarious.

This is good information. I’m so glad that I switched to whole wheat many years ago.

  • Dawn McAlexander

I always find it interesting when someone wants to cut an entire food group or nutritional source from their diet. It might work for some but I think, for most, it would be very difficult to stick to. You are right, you definitely need good carbs.

I definitely agree, we do eat carb-filled food here but we choose to avoid pasta, soda, and sweets. It is just a matter of choosing which is best to eat.

Thank you for the reminder that there are good carbs and bad! I think in this dieting society of ours, information like that slips through the cracks.

This is an interesting blog post that made me curious today! As one who needs to limit sugar via carbs, this does not fit my food lifestyle, but I understand why carbs would be important for most bodies to absorb and burn calories!
I wish it might be different, but my food lifestyle works for me!

  • Rosey

I do love foods with the good carbs. The bad news is, I also like food with the bad carbs…far too often.

  • Fi Ní Neachtáin

Carbs are so important, hence why they’re the biggest section on the food pyramid. I could never cut them out, I love bread too much!

  • CourtneyLynne

Carbs really are important . Well the right ones anyway. The right carbs and the right fats are things our bodies need.

  • Krystal

I need to learn more about good and bad carbs. I gave up carbs a while ago but I slowly introduced them back into my diet.

  • Yona Williams

I was one of those people who got scared to eat carbs at one point, but that was a long, long time ago. I’ve since embraced what ‘good’ carbs can do for me and my body.
