“Though this post is in partnership with REI, all thoughts and opinions are my own.”
If you started following my fitness journey after my divorce, you know that running and hiking went from 0 to 100 for me. I went from hating the thought of doing either to living and breathing it all in every weekend.
Since I knew nothing of the outdoors, someone directed me to REI one day to find the right gear. REI quickly helped me find my first minimalist running shoes, my first roll of k-tape, my first camelback, and more! The benefits of being an REI member quickly proved to be well worth it.
Their gear guarantees are outstanding, the sales are amazing, and the member exclusives are phenomenal. Just in case you need more of a nudge, let me tell you about my favorite 3 benefits of being an REI member and why you should consider joining.
$20 Lifetime Membership
Yes, you read that right. For only $20 you will receive a lifetime membership as an REI member. It is one of the cheapest, most rewarding memberships I’ve ever heard of! Not to mention if you spend $200 on eligible purchases, you will gain 10% back in your member dividend aka the membership will pay for itself. If that’s not a benefit of being an REI member, I don’t know what is!
10% Back Member Dividend
Every year in March, you, as an REI member and/or REI Co-op member, will receive 10% back on all of your eligible REI purchases and if you have one, rewards from any purchases made with your REI Co-op World Mastercard.
As a special mention, with every purchase made with your REI Co-op World Mastercard, REI makes a donation to the National Forest Foundation. The National Forest Foundation strives to help restore run down trails, campgrounds, waters, etc. in our national forests and grasslands. So save your money and the outdoors at the same time!
Members-Only Events & Discounts
Have you always wanted to attend an event at REI but worry about it being overcrowded by the public? Being an REI member gives you the benefit of members-only events that aren’t open to the public. You can attend garage sales(up to 50% off gear!), campouts, member jams, and more!
What to attend an REI Outdoor class or Adventures trips? How about discounts on rentals or bike shop services? That REI membership has you covered with special discounts so you don’t have to pay full price.

I love my REI membership. I first went to REI after having surgery on my ankle and needing some better shoes with arch support. My orthopedic recommended Hoka shoes and REI was the place to get them!!
I had no idea that they had a membership program. A store has opened up about 45 minutes from our house. I will have to go check it out.
