Keeping your little one safe from harm should be a priority at all times. There are a host of gadgets and gizmos which help; all working to heighten security in the home. Let’s take a brief glance at five of the best child safety gadgets out there which guarantee exactly that.
Baby Monitor
An oldie but a goldie; a baby monitor is pretty much a necessity when it comes to ensuring your baby’s safety has been taken into account. These are set up so you and your partner are able to hear your child crying at all hours of the day and night – with one device left in your room and the other in your little ones’.
While they might not prove to be your favorite gadget in the spur of the moment (after all, who wants to be woken up in the middle of the night?), they will stand out as your most important tool for guaranteeing your child’s constant safety. It goes without saying this is more important than you being comfortable.
Foam guards
Foam protectors come in handy throughout the home, with these soft and spongy materials able to prevent nasty mishaps from occurring in every room of the house. It might surprise you, but in 2015 as many as 300,000 people were admitted to emergency care in hospital as a result of catching their hands in the door.
But it’s not just the prevention of slamming doors where foam guards are useful, with sharp corners and jagged edges also able to be safely covered. This means that infamous pointy table-edge is no longer a concern when your wee one is running about.
Bath Thermometers
This technological gizmo makes it considerably easier to keep a constant vigilance over just how hot or cold your baby’s bathwater is. With the recommended temperature being 37 degrees Celsius, you’ll now be able to ensure it sticks to that level at all times.
Remember when bathing a baby for the first six months you should ideally let the water come up to just above their shoulders, as they won’t be able to effectively monitor their own body temperature yet. It goes without saying you’ll need to pay constant attention to them, however.
Stair Gates
You probably remember these from when you were a child, with the old fashioned stair gate serving a purpose throughout the past century or so. In essence, this temporary gate works to make sure children don’t walk into dangerous situations or stumble down a flight of stairs.
With such importance placed on these devices, it’s imperative you ensure the ones you choose to use aren’t faulty. Deaths are not uncommon when a stair gate which has malfunctions are attached to a home. Make sure you use tried and tested manufacturers – and then carry out your own tests just to be extra safe.
Safety Dome
Concluding our list is a new item which is somewhat innovative. The safety dome has been introduced as a way of allowing a baby to sit in and experience the sounds and sights of a living room without the additional risk of a pet or older sibling causing them hard.
Do any of these child safety gadgets catch your fancy? We seriously recommend trying out as many as you can to make sure your baby or young child doesn’t suffer an unfortunate mishap in the future.
I had most of those when my boys were babies. The monitor was a lifesaver, though, because my youngests room is on the first floor and I am up on the second.
I think of all of these we used all but the safety dome when our kids were young. It is so important to create a safe environment and there are so many products out there now that can help with this!
I remember when I used safegard my house from my children. They would love to open cabinets and had me worried all the time.
My kids are older now, but I wish we had had foam guards and a bath thermometer! These are definitely things to think of in the future. The safety dome is awesome.
Stair gates are a must in our house. My husband and I have baby-proofed our house because we mind the grandkids 3 times a week. Electrical outlets have been covered, cabinets now have safety locks and the doors and furniture have foam covers as well. Better safe than sorry.
Only two that I never used was the bath thermometers and the dome. Not sure about using the dome all the older children and pets just got use to have the baby around and our dog was always very protective of all our kids. Love the baby monitor. My daughter has one where she can see her children.
I still have a couple of higher end baby monitors in the house for my youngest. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a safety dome before.
We’ve pretty much used all of these! Sadly our little girl is a terrific climber so can’t say the stairgates actually did much to stop her haha
I have never heard of a safety dome actually. We had many of the others though. A baby monitor is a necessity of course and it helped me to sleep easier when we had very small children. NOBODY should be without stair gates either and GOOD ones. Not cheap ones. This is an area you need to spend the money on wisely.
I think we had most of these when my son was a baby. The biggest one for me was the baby monitor. I would’ve never slapped if I did not have the baby monitor.
I have never heard of the safety dome, but I had most of the other items. I didn’t have a baby monitor because our house was so small when my kids were babies. Definitely great items to have though!
Baby monitors have came such a long way! I like the ones that are video monitors. My boys are 4 and I still use them sometimes.
I have never heard of a safety dome before. We have corner guards and ababy monitor. We don’t have stairs so no stair gate.
We have used stair gates in the last home and in this home. They are invaluable for keeping kids safe around stairs. I never knew they made a bath thermometer!
Surprisingly, the only of these we ever use is the foam guards. I have never found a baby monitor useful as my babies are either in my arms or in the same room with me at all times.
A lot of the things you listed are truly essential, I think. I have not heard of the safety dome, but it sounds interesting. Gee, the world sure has passed me by since my daughter was little.
This is a great post! I have almost everything listed above except the safety dome, never heard of it until now. going to check that out!
You know, there is so much to think about when it comes to child safety. This is a very nice, comprehensive list to get us started.
Great tips! These are all must have especially when you have a toddler. We love the stair gates, it keeps us worry free that she’ll climb when one of us isn’t looking.
I used most of these while my kids where babies/toddlers, our entire house was childproofed with the first one however with the second child we took precautions but we where also more relaxed about it. These all sound like great gadgets.
