My oldest loves participating in 5k runs. As long as it has a theme he can relate to he’s on board. When it comes to OCR and mud runs, he’s hands down ready to participate. About a week ago my husband and I finally ran the Tough Mudder Half so of course, I had to sign him up for the Mini Mudder.
What is a Mini Mudder?
Tough Mudder’s Mini Mudder is for kids 7 to 12 years old who are at least 3.5 feet tall. The Mini Mudder is a 1 mile obstacle course mud run designed for adventure-seeking kids. The course gives kids the chance to work as a team, get muddy, and experience the thrill of active adventure.
Luckily enough, my younger brother was coming into town to visit and so I was able to sign him up to participate as well. Not only is the Mini Mudder only $20 per child, you can purchase a Mini Mudder + Spectator Package which scores you 2 Mini Mudder registrations and 2 spectator passes which is a sweet deal.
Parents First
Since our start time was at 10 am my hubby and I decided to tackle the Half first. It took us roughly 2 hours to complete then we headed over to the Mini Mudder to get the boys set to run. They were anxiously awaiting their turn to take off on the course.
Once we got bands on their wrists they were off into the mud. I love that the Mini Mudder was full of small sit’sd Tough Mudder obstacles. E is used to obstacle course runs but Landon, my younger brother, has never participated in one so I wasn’t sure how he would do.
Mini Mudder Time
Before they began they had to do a quick little warm up. The warm up was great and encouraged them to work together as a team to complete the course. They even took the Mini Mudder pledge which stated that Mini Mudders:
1. like getting muddy.
2. are tough and strong.
3. always work together.
4. do not whine. Babies whine.
5. are up for adventure.
6. can do anything.
The course was short so they had to complete 5 laps each to complete their mile. They had to tackle mud pits, climb over tires, monkey bars, the secret agent squeeze, a mini Everest, and many more obstacles. Both boys dominated the course like champs. They were so proud to sport their very own headbands.
Overall the Mini Mudder is a great obstacle run for kiddos. I think it’s a great option to keep kids in shape and interested in a healthy hobby. Not only does it get them outside, it gets them away from those pesky electronics!
Woah, what a little adventurer. I hope that Rakeiora will be doing stuff like this!
That is so awesome! What a great idea for them to have these obstacle course for kids. Kids especially boys love to run around in the mud so why not do it at an event, right? Your kids are adorable and it looks like they enjoyed themselves.

Never heard of a mini mudder before. Sounds like so much fun. Kids are very cute.
I can not wait until my boys are of age to do this. My daughter is 6 but she’s too much of a girly girl to get down and dirty. I would actually do this myself, for adults of course.
