Every mama knows that they best way for babies to learn to eat is by exploring the food itself. This is great for their fine motor skills and also helps with food aversions and potential sensory issues when they’re older. The downside of this is that babies can destroy a room in 3.2 seconds once they get their hands on food. Being on my third baby, I have picked up a few tips and tricks on how to contain the mess when babies eat.
Cleanable High Chair
This may sound odd but getting a high chair that is easy to clean is a must. We have used a few different high chairs throughout having kids and honestly, the simpler, the better when it comes to cleaning. High chairs with creases from fabric become super difficult to get all the food out without taking it all apart. Speaking of, make sure the high chair is easy to take apart if it does need a deep cleaning. I found out the hard way with one of my chairs. It came apart but it took a lot of work to free the insert from the chair.
Food Catching Pocket Bib
These bibs may not appear to be of any use but they are so helpful. There are many options on the market from silicone structured bibs to thinner floppy bibs. No matter which option you go with, they all work. Having a food catching pocket bib helps collect almost everything your little one may drop from the tray to mouth transfer. Having one of these bibs are a huge help when it comes to clean up time.
When All You Need is a Square
Speaking of clean up, my next tip on how to contain the mess when babies eat is having good paper towels. Have you ever had a sippy cup leak and only needed a square to clean it up, but didn’t have that option? How about cleaning dirty baby hands after lunch? Thankfully, Brawny is here to change the game. Winner of Product of the Year, Tear-A-Square® gives you the strength, flexibility, and durability of Brawny® in a variety of sizes to conquer any size mess without wasting paper towels. Less waste = healthier Earth. From little boy tinkles on the potty seat to a food massacre, Brawny® is here to help. Head to your local Kroger Family of Stores to grab some, so you never waste on another mess!
Reusable Floor Mat
No matter how many parameters you put in place, babies love tossing things off of their highchair. Save your floors by investing in a reusable floor mat. These mats are easy to clean after baby is finished eating…or playing in their food. A couple swipes from a Brawny® Tear-A-Square® and its ready for the next meal.
Though meal time may seem like a chore when babies are learning new foods and how to feed themselves, you can get through it with a little help from these products to contain the mess when babies eat.
