Halloween is almost here and soon you might see a number of princesses, superheroes, silly monsters, and more walking down the street, or maybe even at your door screaming trick or treat! Your kids are probably trying to pick out the perfect bag to hold as much candy as possible while they’re marching door-to-door. All the while, you are helping pick out a costume and deciding what they will dress up as for all of the fun come Halloween night. I am sure you can think of all of the years past that you had the perfect costume for them!
Kids in Need
Sadly, not every child will get the opportunity to participate in the fun this Halloween. Every year there are thousands of foster children that do not get to experience the joys and excitement of Halloween that many of us take for granted. Not because they are not allowed, but simply because they are not able to get a costume. Some of these children might use bed sheets and be a makeshift ghost only to have to put it back on their bed at the end of the night. For them—many of whom only had the clothes on their back when they entered the foster care system—something as simple as dressing up as a superhero or a princess can bring great joy.
Costume Drive
This year, Grade Potential Tutoring is working to bring that joy with their annual Halloween costume recycling drive. Costumes will be accepted from now until November 17th at any of the drop off locations. You can find the drop off locations and details on the Grade Potential Halloween Costume Drive Page. All costumes will be given to foster children that would not have otherwise had one to celebrate Halloween with this year. To participate, you can simply donate your child’s used or new costume to any drop off location listed on their website. Grade Potential simply asks that all costumes be clean and have no major tears or holes.
There is so much excitement this time of year and we hope that you will share the joy with these foster children! If you have any questions regarding drop off times and locations feel free to contact the drop off location nearest you.
