With all the hustle and bustle of being a mom, little things can slip your mind throughout the day. You’ve got dishes to do, laundry to fold, kids to pick up from school, sports to attend and more. How many of you have had an “uh oh” moment before? Did you know there is an emergency contraceptive option out there if needed?
What Emergency Contraception is
Forgetting to take birth control has happened to me before and having a backup plan to turn to when an accident happens is key for family planning. Believe me, the last thing I want at the moment is to be pregnant right away again. Though I haven’t had a need to use an emergency contraceptive currently, having it on hand is a no brainer.
Like many common birth control pills, Plan B One-Step is made with the same active ingredient, levonorgestrel, found in regular oral contraceptive pills, just in a single, higher dosage of it. Plan B is NOT an abortion pill and mainly works by delaying ovulation in order to help prevent pregnancy before it happens. A common misconception is also that younger women are the only ones that use Plan B. In actuality, half of the women who use is it are 18-24 years old and the other half are over 25. Hello! Waving my 30-year old (yikes!) white flag here!
Where to Find Plan B One-Step
The sooner you take Plan B One-Step the better it works so having this emergency contraceptive available at my local retailers such as Target is amazing! I was able to find Plan B One-Step in the family planning aisle at Target next to the condoms, pregnancy tests, etc.
Since you no longer need an ID or prescription to purchase, I walked right up to it on the shelf and grabbed it no questions asked. If you’re looking for the product and cannot locate it within the store, you can always ask the pharmacist and they will be able to help you – no questions asked. There is also no age restriction.
Myth Buster
When I was younger, I always heard how taking emergency contraception affects your fertility. Turns out, that is totally false. Taking Plan B One-Step will not impact your future or long-term fertility when used as directed. This is so reassuring since we may one day want to have a fourth and final child.
At the end of the day, things happen. Forgetting your birth control or birth control failure is not the end of the world. There is a great emergency contraceptive pill out there such as Plan B One-Step to help you get through it. If you find yourself or someone you know in need of Plan B, feel free to use this coupon for $10 off your purchase of the product.
I absolutely feel that emergency contraception should be readily available and easy to access. This is excellent information for women of all ages!
I have never tried to use contraceptives but this one looks like a good product to try. This is such a nice information to all women like me.
My grandma had 7 kids. She always told me if there had been the pill she would have only had 3.
I have some cousins and friends who use contraceptives. I will share this with them.
That’s great that emergency contraception is easy to access, I think it’s so important if we want to reduce abortion rates for a start!
I was reading this for a friend of mine who was discussing emergency contraction. I told her I’d research it for her while she’s at work. I’m glad to see that there is such a thing available when it’s needed.
While I have never used this myself, trying to conceive, my friend has used it to be a back up plan (aka Plan B) to her other contraceptives. I am proud of her for taking charge of her body and doing family planning her way.
I’m glad that this is readily available to access. I know when it comes to needing emergency contraception, it can be quite embarrassing to talk to anyone about.
