I’m sure many of you have heard of the game CLUE. You run all over the house trying to find out who killed who, why they did it, and with what weapon. I seriously love this game. I use to play it when I lived in Hawaii for hours on end. It was a rush to figure it out.
I’ve heard of these murder mystery dinners and thought they would either be awesome or really cheesy so I never dedicated myself to finding out. This past weekend however, we were invited to check out the Murder Mystery Company’s show, Crime and Pun-ishment. It was held at the Old Spaghetti factory in downtown Phoenix and we made sure to arrive early to get good seats.
Upon arriving we were greeted by the fabulous Amanda who wowed us with her sparkling flapper dress and sweet as pie accent. She gave us a quick run down and called her sweet Lou-ie pie over to show us to our seats. Once we found our way we got our photos taken in quirky 20’s props and waited for the show to start.
The show started on time which is something I truly appreciate. I really hate when I show up to a venue and have to wait and wait for the show to start. On time is the key and a great first impression. The story started with Lou Zar explaining how the evening would flow and how eat table was a team and we had to work together to solve the murder. Each table also had 2 suspects for us to question as well. The suspects were rivals, jealous lovers(shout out to Trish!), undercover feds, and bootlegging men.
Unfortunately for Lou, he was the one murdered that evening . After his murder we were able to turn a page in our binder and find out more information about the suspects at our table. Eric was smarter than he looked and spoke very little. We also had Ms Terri Guest who was an undercover FBI hit woman at our table.
Throughout the evening we were given investigation breaks to question and bribe the suspects. Our first investigation we didn’t find out much as a whole. I think we were all kind of lost and weren’t sure what to ask. By the second one though we were full force at trying to figure out the murder mystery. In between each break, as we were learning more of the story we were served, a three-course meal via The Old Spaghetti Factory.
As our investigation was winding down it was time to put all of our clues together and solve the murder mystery. We thought long and hard and came up with an elaborate murder. We thought that Lou’s mom gave Trish(jealous lover) poison to murder Amanda(Lou’s Gal). In the gist of the brawl in the dark alley, we thought that Trish accidentally poisoned Lou and that’s why she was so distraught after his death. We decided that Lou’s mom and Trish teamed up to kill Amanda because Amanda couldn’t have kids while Trish could bare children and was madly in love with him. Sadly we were wrong in our answer. It turned out that the murder was at our very own table!
Overall the murder mystery dinner was fantastic. We had a blast getting to know each other while solving the murder. I have to give a big shout out to the actors for their work. They were the highlight of the night and stayed in character the whole time. The story was filled with lots of hilarious puns and dinner was great.
If you are interested in attending a Murder Mystery Company show head on over to their site and choose from one of the many show themes they have to offer. Though I personally attended my show in Phoenix, they are held all over the country. They even offer private shows if you want to hold a birthday party or event. I’m considering holding one for my upcoming birthday in fact.
I’ve always wanted to try a murder mystery show, but was hestitant on if it would be worth the cost. This post helped a lot in my decision process, it looks like a really fun experience!
This looks like a fun party. We did a dress up murder mystery before and we thought it was a lot of fun. It is best when everyone gets into character.
That sounds like it would be fun for your birthday. I think I have heard of it before, but it’s nice to see the inside look.
I have heard about these dinners and have always wanted to try it. It looks like you had a great time!
These seems so cool and I’ve only seen it in movies and never thought it could happen in real life. So cool you got to experience something like this!
The Murder Mystery Company is the most professional and most fun show in town! They also perform at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Chandler, and do private shows as well.
