Washing the linens

As soon as your linens are finished being used, you typically want to wash them right away since they can be bulky and in the way. The best way to thoroughly wash your linens is to make sure you aren’t overloading your washing machine. When you shove a huge comforter in your washing machine, it’s going to bunch up and not get washed properly. Sometimes it’s best to take it to the dry cleaners in cases like these.

For items that do fit well, such as sheets and towels, make sure you wash like colors and use good laundry detergent. The right detergent is a great step to keeping your linens fresh. How to Store

When it comes to storing your linens, there are a couple of different things you can do to combat that musky odor when storing.

1. Purge – Raise your hand if you’re guilty of holding on to way too many linens? 🙋Well, now is time to clear them out. Non-Essential linens, duplicates, etc. need to find a new home to allow more air flow.
2. Line the Shelves – Often the musky scent in your linen closet is simply in the wood. To help combat that stench, line your shelves with contact paper. There are tons of cute prints out there to choose from and create a cute look.
3. Don’t Mix – Have you ever had one of your kids pull out a blanket only to use it for the day? As tempting as it is to toss it back in the linen closet, don’t. Throw it in the wash and put it up once it’s fresh and clean. Mixing “dirty” linens with clean linens will only add to the odor.
