Like many other Arizona homes, our home has a gigantic dining room. I’ve always hated the way the room has looked and wanted to maximize the space without crowding it. After lots of rearranging and purchasing new items, I finally have a front room that I love! Here is the reveal of our palm leaf dining room makeover for under $1,000.
Our Bland Before Photos
I use to love black on black furniture. Thank buddha I grew out of that over the last 4 years and have been trying my best to escape it. I’m serious, you should see our living makeover too. It’s a huge shift.
Our New Palm Leaf Dining Room
There are a few more additions to be added but I will update the photos accordingly as it happens!
Where to Buy
Of course, this post wouldn’t be complete without sharing where we purchased all of the items in our new palm leaf dining room. If I didn’t share something in this list and you want to know where I got it, let me know. Some of these items were being clearanced out at Target so make sure to snag them quickly if they’re still available!
Dining Room Table
I’ve been pining(haha, get it?) for a wood colored table for a while now so when I set eyes on this Weston Block Leg Dining Table in Wheat by Dorel Living, I knew it would be the perfect addition! We had the same size table previously so I knew it would fit in the space which was a bonus for me. This table does come in a rather large box but you only have to screw on the legs and it was super simple to complete. I love the color and texture of the table which will hold its own against my three crazy boys! $241.57, chairs not included
Dining Room Chairs
I didn’t want to get rid of all the black in this space so my husband decided to incorporate the black and wood-look together. After a bit of searching, I found these super trendy Mid Century Modern Molded Chairs with Wood Legs. They came in two pieces and assembled fairly easy. I love that they are 100 times easier to clean than our previous chairs. A simple wipe down and you’re done. $73.11 for a set of two
Large Palm Leaf Rug
I wasn’t planning on going with a palm leaf rug but as soon as I saw it on a Target ad, I knew it had to be mine. We previously had a 5×7 rug under the table and it was far too small so I knew I needed to go much larger and get a 7×10 this time around. If you have more/less space in your dining room, don’t worry, they do make this rug in larger and smaller sizes. Oh and p.s. this IS an outdoor rug. I found using outdoor rugs in our dining room makes clean up a million times easier than a regular rug that stains and absorbs easily. $59.99+ depending on size
Built A Life They Loved Wood Wall Decor
I’m not completely sold on the “a life they loved” sign above our table but it’s a start until I find something better. A friend of mine suggested a large colored macrame which I’m still debating. If you have any ideas, feel free to share! $49.99
8 Cube Organizer
As you can see, I reused this large 8 cube organizer versus opting for something new. It was a great way to tie more black into the room and keep the theme going. Just FYI, you do have to assemble this whole piece yourself but its fairly easy. $69.99 in various colors
Seagrass Baskets
Previously I only had one basket in the bottom of the organizer. Then it dawned on me how much space I was wasting by not incorporating baskets. Not to mention, hide the mess of everything I wanted to store on it. $19.99 a basket
Macrame Piece
I originally threw this little macrame piece up on the wall over my desk because I didn’t know where to place it. After getting the new table and rug in place, I knew that little spot would be the perfect fit. $19.99 for this specific one
Home Sign
This was a total impulse buy. I was walking around good ole Hobby Lobby, trying not to get myself into trouble, and just so happen to find this “home” sign right before checking out. Guess it was meant to be. $6.49 currently 75% off!
Record Table
My records and player use to sit on the cube organizer previously and I hated it. The Novogratz Concord Double Turntable Stand was the perfect addition to the room and so versatile! You have the ability to use it for storage or an entry table even if records aren’t your thing. This piece does take some time to put together but it is 100% worth it! $138.74 for the white/walnut version I have
Gold Round Mirror
Because who isn’t in love with these large round mirrors? They are cute and so practical! $59.99 for this size
Mini Display
This is a Google Lenovo display and we love this thing. Like a Google Home hub, it has a screen to show you videos, traffic, the weather, etc. versus just hearing it all at once and trying to remember everything it says. $129.99 for the Google Home Hub
Zen Garden
I’ve been wanted a zen garden for years so after I incorporated the seagrass baskets, I had much more space on top of the organizer and I knew it was finally time! B hasn’t noticed it yet, thankfully so here’s to hoping he doesn’t ever find it. $34.99 for mine
Planter & Stand
Finding a cute planter and stand is so difficult for some reason. After hours and hours of searching, I found this one at Hobby Lobby of all places. Later I found out that Amazon offers tons of cute ones! $19.99 for mine
Money-Saving Tips
Tip 1. The easiest way to save some cash is by getting free shipping. See what the minimum is for ordering and meet it if you aren’t too far away from it. Sometimes just browsing around you can find a few small items to meet the mark.
Tip 2. Take advantage of Target savings with the Circle App and a REDcard. I got my palm leaf rug for only $90 using the app and my REDcard. Using your REDcard saves you 5% off every purchase, you get free shipping, and you get special perks from time to time like a free $5 credit or an extra 30% off certain items. PSA! You can get a debit REDcard versus a credit card REDcard. A debit REDcard is connected to your bank account so when you check out, it acts almost like a check and pulls money out 1-2 days later via ACH. It does not touch your credit at all. If you want the credit card though, go for it. You can find out more info on how to sign up for both here.
*In full disclosure, a few items were sent to me as part of this makeover collaboration. My thoughts and opinions are my own and I did add the cost of these items into the full budget.
Love the Palm look and it really brings that room together and makes for a great change in atomosphere. It is so nice to get all those accompaniments at such good prices from Target.
What a nice, light and airy space it is now. It feels so great to make big changes like this!
I need you come and decorate my house! WOW this is gorgeous! I would love my house to look like this!
