Guilty. I’m one of those people who love something salty with their sweet and vice versa. I think I read somewhere once that its actually something your body does to balance your blood sugar levels. Maybe I remember that incorrectly but either way, I’m a sucker for the mix.
When it comes to popcorn I normally like to eat extra sharp cheddar with it but lately, due to pregnancy, I’ve been crazy the sweetness with the salty more. That’s why this sweet & salty popcorn mix has become a nightly fave. It’s super simple to make in minutes and hits my sweet and salty tooth just right.
Sweet & Salty Popcorn Mix
Grab a couple of bowls, a pot for melting the chocolate, spoon/spatula, and the ingredients below.
Ingredients
4 cups popcorn, prepared (your choice of popping your own kernels or using a microwavable bag)
2 cups pretzels
3 cups chocolate chips(milk, dark, whatever your heart desires)
1 cup white candy melts(I use Ghiradelli)
1 tbsp coconut oil
Break off your pretzels into smaller pieces and place in a large bowl. Leave some pretzels whole for garnishing (optional). It’s best to do these by hand to avoid crushing the pretzels.
Get to popping your popcorn according to the directions or however you typically make yours and place in a large bowl along with your pretzels.
Using the double boiler method*, melt your chocolate chips and pour over popcorn and pretzel mix. Fold over the mixture with a spoon so that your popcorn and pretzels are covered with the chocolate.
*If you don’t know what the double boiler method is, you can head here to learn how to do it. In short, you boil water and place your bowl on top of the pot to heat and melt your chocolate.
Using a microwave-safe bowl, microwave candy melts and coconut oil in 30-second intervals. Once melted, pour over popcorn and pretzel mix in a drizzling motion.
Garnish with your leftover pretzels and bon appetit! You’ve created the perfect sweet & salty popcorn mix for a movie night, dessert, or to cure that craving. Let me know once you’ve tried it and what you think!
